My Go To ODTUG Kscope17 Database Sessions

Here we are, about 10 weeks out from Kscope17. It's my favorite time of the year, and I always get pumped up about renewing friendships, meeting new friends, having fun, and most of all, learning. Kscope is, has been, and always will  be the place where content is King. This year is no different. So what am I looking forward to? Here are my thoughts concerning the Database track.

Before I get into my thoughts, I'd like to give a shout out to the track sponsor, Quest. Having a sponsor for the track is a big deal, and we're so happy to have Quest on board and sponsoring this track. Find out more about Quest here.

So, where to start? Well, I could go with speakers like Maria Colgan, Steven Feuerstein, Cary Millsap, Rich Niemiec, and on and on. It is a veritable who's who of top-notch speakers in the Database track this year.

Calling all SQLcl Users
SQLcl is one of the tools I want to learn to use more effectively at my work. Luckily, Oracle ACE Galo Balda is giving us a talk on SQLcl titled SQLcl: A Modern Command Line Interface to the Oracle Database. If you are interested in SQLcl, I hope you'll join me for Galo's session.

Virtualization and Beyond
I also want to know more about virtualization. If I can learn how to help get a quicker turnaround in setting up a test environment, it sounds like a winning solution. Oracle ACE Director Tim Gorman, has a session that sounds like exactly what I am looking for – Accelerating Testing Using Data Virtualization. Tim is a good friend, a great speaker, and this is a great topic. Talk about a winning combination!

The Ups and Downs of Cloud Computing
Now, with the maturing of Oracle's Cloud offerings, if you need to find out more about the cloud, I encourage you to take advantage of what KScope has to offer. One presentation I'm looking forward to is I've Looked at Cloud From Both Sides Now: Developer Cloud Service or Not?, presented by Oracle ACE Director Peter Koletzke. I've enjoyed listening to Peter talk throughout my many years at ODTUG conferences, and I always learn something when I attend one of his sessions. In fact, one of my first experiences with ODTUG was when I was able to be an ambassador for one of Peter's presentations. I got to introduce Peter to the crowd in the room, and Peter became a friend from that point forward.

Secure this Session in Your Kscope17 Schedule
Security ought to be at the forefront of everyone's mind nowadays. Newly-minted Oracle ACE Director Rob Lockard is on my “hit” list for Kscope17, presenting A Holistic Approach to Database Security. Rob is high on the list of security experts around, and anyone wishing to plug any leaks before they happen would be wise to see Rob in action at Kscope17.

Learn DBA Best Practices from the DBA Expert
Since I do perform DBA tasks in my job, I want to learn a little more from someone who knows a lot more than I do. Francisco Munoz Alvarez, also an Oracle ACE Director, is going to speak on the topic of Tips and Best Practices for DBAs. I can't wait for this session, as Francisco has been doing this for more than 20 years.

I could go on and on, as there are dozens more sessions from which to choose, by more world-renowned experts, Oracle Product Managers, developers, and more. You can't go wrong with any of your choices. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to network with the best of the best at Kscope17 in San Antonio, Texas, from June 25 – 29. You'll be glad you did!

Haven't registered yet, you can do that here. And in case you want to find out more about the Database track, you can do that here. I hope to see you deep in the heart of Texas this June!
