Voting Now Open for the 2018 - 2019 Board of Directors

I've written about the values of being a member of ODTUG many times in the past. I've also written about some of the possible decision points that members could take into account when voting for your board of directors. Today the message I have for you, the paid ODTUG member, is this – you should vote.

Listen, your vote counts. Some elections have been decided by a single vote, and sometimes we've had ties where the tie is broken by luck of the draw (literally, it is in our bylaws). It matters. I'd like to see all of our paid members exercise their right to vote this time around.

Every member of the board takes great pride in the job that you, the member, entrust us to do. I represent all members. Those that voted for me. Those that didn't. Those that just joined last month. You are the people that we as board members represent.

The world of technology is rapidly changing. And it feels as if the pace at which these changes are occurring is approaching light speed. This makes your choice for the ODTUG Board of Directors even more important.

Read the campaign statements. Think about what each of these candidates brings to the table. Do they represent what you think a board member should be? Think about the remaining board members who are not up for election this year, and what they bring to the table.

Remember, your choice is for five open slots, and the five that you elect will join Karen Cannell, Tim German, Jake Turrell, and yours truly for an exciting 2018. And then 12 months from now, the cycle will continue for the four slots open at that time.

Please read the bios. Read the campaign statements. Consider the experience, both volunteer and professional. And vote.

Voting is now open (9:00 a.m. EDT on October 3, 2017). It ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Tuesday October 24, 2017. Winners should be announced very shortly after the results are tabulated, and yours truly, as secretary, verifies the results and contacts all of the candidates.

Good luck to all nine of the candidates! I look forward to serving with the five of you elected. I also want to thank all nine of the candidates for their decision to submit their names for consideration. Not only does your vote count, your decision to volunteer counts!!
