Essbase Partitioning Basics, Tips, and Tricks
Topic: Essbase
Owner: Michael LaBarge
Date: 2014-06-20
Subtopic: Tips and Techniques

This presentation will dive into the world of Essbase partitioning and would be ideal for both beginner and intermediate Essbase Administrators. It begins with a comprehensive lesson in partitioning including: what are they, types of partitions, when to use them, etc. This is followed by detailed steps on how to build basic partitions with screen shots and/or live examples from EAS covering connections, area definition, mappings, and validation. Additional advanced mapping techniques will be covered including examples of mapping cubes with different dimensionality, differing member names and unequal member cell counts, along with use of UDA’s and subsets to define specialized area mappings. A real-world example linking a Planning cube with an Essbase reporting cube will be shown and illustrate how plan and forecast data can be merged with actual data to present a single consolidated view to the users. Partitioning between BSO and ASO may also be covered.
