GE administrators are faced with supporting thousands of Finance users on the Hyperion EPM stack. During the initial rollout of Smart View to these users, GE experienced a high number of support requests around the use and navigation in Smart View. To meet this growing challenge, GE’s Hyperion administrator staff created several enhancements to Smart View in order to supplement functionality, and boost its ease of use. Using the Smart View Toolkit, the Excel API and freeware from Microsoft, GE has created enrichments to the Smart View user interface. In this presentation I display and demonstrate a fully customized Excel ribbon designed to group commonly used Smart View menus and controls in an intuitive and easy to learn fashion. Following the rollout of this custom ribbon the call volume dropped sharply, indicating that users were now self-sufficient with Smart View and pleased with the new tool.
This presentation will detail the methods and tools used to make Smart View’s use easier and more intuitive for GE’s users. Easily created custom menus will be showcased along with the tools and techniques used to create them.
