Deep Dive | Just Add Water: Building a Data Lakehouse

For years, delivering analytics meant building data warehouses: purpose-built solutions for explicit requirements defined by data consumers. Next came the data lake and its focus on storing as much data as possible, initially powered by Hadoop but finding mass appeal with cloud native options. Now the data lakehouse is trending: a reimagining of both concepts combined into a single data platform.
Join three seasoned industry leaders on a journey to the data lakehouse. We’ll describe key patterns that define a lakehouse and the value it delivers over prior attempts at data tranquility. Finally, experience the strengths and weaknesses of three separate lakehouse demonstrations: one using the Oracle Cloud, and two others built with competitor solutions.

Hands-On Training | Programmatically Managing Oracle Analytics Cloud

Oracle Analytics Cloud has recently introduced new management APIs. In this Hands-On Lab, learn about the benefits and capabilities of the available API endpoints, how to authenticate them and best practices for their usage. The APIs can dramatically improve your productivity for creating OAC instances, deploying BAR files as well as implementing an automated backup strategy.  This HOL will help you manage your OAC Instance using APIs - in order to get the most out of this HOL, you’ll need access to an OAC instance where you can create and restore snapshots in addition to access to OCI object storage and the ability to create custom applications in Oracle IDCS in the same tenancy  as that OAC Instance.  Even if you’re not able to get these requirements, please still attend if you’re interested as you will learn all the key tasks to programmatically manage OAC.

Core & Database

9:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. | Dallas 5

Deep Dive | Faster: How to Optimize a System

A talk about selected chapters from Faster: How to Optimize a System, the latest book by Cary Millsap with Jeff Holt. The talk is for anybody who is curious about how computer programs and other processes spend their time, and what you can do to improve them (that is, developers, database administrators, and project/program leaders at any experience level).

Making things faster is about making things better. Making life better. The faster your tools can work, the more time you have for doing the things you want to be doing. If your tools help you process information, then the faster they work, the better decisions you can make.

Optimizing – whether a computer, or a plow, or anything in between – requires two separate skill sets: one, asking the right questions; and two, of course, answering those questions. Most people who think about optimizing are well aware of this second skill set. Fewer seem aware of the first one. But this first one – the mere act of asking the right questions – is the skill you need to develop first, especially if you’re a leader. You might be surprised at how quickly you’ll be able to learn it.

Deep Dive | What AI Services Does Oracle Offer and How Does that Apply to the Technical and Functional Users?

Oracle has released several AI services recently and learning when and how to use them can seem daunting. However, these tools have been built so that a range of technical and functional users can consume the service and data for deeper analysis and utilization. This session will review the services offered, how to use the services in the workplace, and how different business departments can use the services for deeper insights into their data.

How can a financial analyst utilize the Vision service to make their job easier? How can the supply chain professional utilize the Language service to hedge shipping delays? How can an accounting manager utilize Anomaly Detection to manage expenses? We will go into an array of scenarios for AI service understanding.

Presenter - Sarah Zumbrum, Oracle Corporation

10:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. | San Antonio 6

Hands-On Training | Hands-On with Oracle AI Services

The goal of this session is primarily informational for attendees in understanding what the AI services are and how to use them. A close second is challenging attendees to think beyond the typical uses of AI for Vision, Language, and Anomaly Detection so that they can apply these services in their daily work to drive more efficient departmental and business outcomes.
